Shelley runs the London Marathon and raises £2,500 for Cornwall
Long-standing friend and supporter of CCF, Shelley Bence, completed the London Marathon on Sunday, raising an incredible £2,526 for the foundation. We are immensely proud of Shelley for the dedication and effort she put into her training, and for achieving such a fantastic accomplishment in support of CCF.
Shelley’s reason why:
This year, I’m running the London Marathon in support of the Cornwall Community Foundation – an incredible charity that helps people and communities across Cornwall overcome hardship and unlock opportunities.
I was born in Truro, Cornwall. My early years weren’t always easy – my dad struggled with alcoholism, and my parents divorced. After that, my mum, my brother, and I moved to Gloucestershire, where she had grown up. Although life moved on and took me away from Cornwall, it’s always remained close to my heart – it’s where my story began.
Running this marathon is personal. It’s a way for me to give something back to the place that shaped me, to honour the resilience of families like mine, and to support those who, just like we did, need a helping hand when life gets tough.
Last year alone CCF distributed over £2.6m to charities and grass-root organisations supporting people facing amongst other things homelessness, poverty, mental health challenges, rural isolationLack of access to people, services and transportation due to rural location. and poor access to learning and education – as well as supporting arts and culture and the environment in the county. The Foundation supports groups that often go under the radar but who are doing incredible work on the front line to help those in the most need of help.
Every donation – big or small – will go directly to helping Cornish communities thrive. Thank you so much for your support, it truly means the world.
Let’s do this – for Cornwall.
Thank you so much Shelley for choosing to run for Cornwall Community Foundation, the money raised will go to supporting and strengthening communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
