Urgent Appeal: Cornwall's Housing Crisis Fund
Urgent Appeal: Cornwall's Housing Crisis Fund
Our Cornwall Housing Crisis Fund will support organisations at the front line of the crisis as well as those working on longer term solutions and systemic change.
Providing support
where it is needed most
We are aiming to raise £3.3 million from generous donors and national funders to be distributed over three years.
Our Housing Crisis fund will provide groups tackling this issue with essential funding that will help them to continue their work. It will also bring them together to amplify their voices as they call for solutions on a wider scale.
Cornwall’s housing crisis
In February 2022 Cornwall Council announced we are in a housing crisis and unfortunately since then the situation has got worse for many.
11%
of housing stock in Cornwall is social housing, compared to an average of 18% across England.
27,407
households are waiting on social housing lists.
Providing support through grants to those most in need
Grants made through the fund will fall into two interlinked categories
- Core fundingThe running costs of your organisation. This is the money you need to make your work happen. These are also called overheads, running costs or operating costs. for groups and charities working on the front line of the housing crisis.
- Project fundingProject funding is allocated for a specific initiative or ‘project’ with defined objectives, deliverables, and timelines. Project funding is project-specific, with funds intended solely for completing the designated project. They cannot be used for other purposes without the explicit consent from your funders. Project funding is a restricted type of funding. for organisations building new or restoring existing community-led housing.
The impact of your donation
- £15 could provide an emergency care pack with essentials for someone in crisis.
- £150 could fund a day’s work by an outreach worker helping people off the streets.
- £1,000 could cover the utility bills for a hot-breakfast service for three months.
- £20,000 could contribute to a feasibility study for a community-led housing project, paving the way for 20 new homes.
“I have worked hard, I have reached out, and I’ve done the things I need to do on a daily basis, and I’ve regained the love of myself. Through reaching an emotional rock bottom the only way was up, and now I’m here to carry a message of hope.“
