In 1948 the Trenwith family bought the property from the Duchy. It was only a small frontage shop then selling confectionery, cards & ice creams. Then in 1961, the Bourdeaux family bought it, trading as B & D Bourdeaux. At that time the back store was a garage which the family turned into a second-hand shop for a while.

In 1978 the Clifford family bought it and enlarged the floor space by opening up the back area considerably.

Moving to 1984, the Grottick’s purchased the property, they at one time had the back storeroom as a separate shop, called the Fruit Locker, selling fruit & veg.

A new century and in 2000, the Hendra’s bought it, gave it a mini makeover, whilst expanding the range of products.

Fast forward to 2021 Bourdeaux is now owned and managed by Cornwall Group, an independent family business with their origins in business dating back to the 1970’s and based in Truro.

Since early 2022 we have had a refurbishment and refit, which has allowed Bourdeaux to continue to serve both the locals and visitors with our new ranges of gifts, books and many local products including ice creams and alcohol!

Proceeding into 2024 we have since become a Newsagent as well as selling all of our lovely products. Whilst staying faithful to the core business that has served Hugh Town and St Marys for over eight decades.
