More counselling sessions are available thanks to Viscountess Boyd grant

Counselling helps people cope with a wide range of issues, including a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder, a difficult life event, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress, difficult emotions – for example, low self-esteem or anger and other issues, such as sexual identity. Post-pandemic and in the face of the Cost of Living Crisis, the demand for support through counselling has increased.

Counselling for Social Change provides free and low cost counselling to people in Cornwall in person, online and via phone. As well as working directly with individuals that self-refer to their service, they support other charities across Cornwall to provide support to their clients and staff.

Counselling for Social Change offers an accepting and confidential space to discuss any issues currently affecting a person’s life and work. We work in a supportive and empathic way to help you through life’s challenges.

The Viscountess Boyd Charitable Trust awarded £5,000 to Counselling for Social change to fund an administrator to enable the Chief Executive to focus on recruiting and training more volunteer counsellors.

“This funding enabled us to meet the growing demand for long-term counselling. The evidence for the need to expand our service comes from our own growing waiting list (currently 110 people and an average waiting time of 4-5 months).”

“With the increase in admin and management time we were able to recruit additional volunteer to counsellors. This resulted in our ability to see additional counsellors. The additional time also allowed us to have capacity to develop future funding opportunities.”

“With the addition of new counsellors we were able to take on more clients meaning that our income has increased sufficiently to maintain the additional admin staffing that this funding helped us with.”

“These sessions have changed my life. Therapy has brought me back to my old self and I will never be able to thank my counsellor enough”
