A grant from the Business Club Fund secures the long term viability of the National Coastwatch Institution Bass Point Station
The Business Club Fund
The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) exists for the protection and preservation of life at sea and along the United Kingdom coastline.
The Bass Point station monitors the area from Black Head to Lizard Lighthouse and to a distance of 8nm, reporting any concerns to Falmouth Coastguard and when required, assisting in any Search and Rescue incidents.
Volunteers at the station also monitor those using the coast path, helping when needed and have been working at the location for over 30 years.
A grant of £3,000 from the Business Club funded essential repair work to the former coastguard building. Over 70 years old, the building had deteriorated resulting in leaks and water damage which without repair would have continued to worsen.
The grant has enabled volunteers to work in dry conditions and to continue the important
Task of keeping watch out to sea with the main purpose of saving lives and preventing serious injury.
