The Cornish Lithium Community Fund

A grant from the Cornish Lithium Community Fund enabled Georgia’s Voice to deliver essential wellbeing workshops and mental health support for young women across Cornwall. The £1,000 grant funded wellbeing activities including dance therapy, journaling, wellbeing walks, therapy dog visits, and self-defence workshops as part of their Lifesaving Hub project. The project engaged 10 volunteers and directly benefited 120 young women, primarily aged 19-25 facing mental health challenges.

The young women supported by Georgia’s Voice reported gaining confidence, making friends, and experiencing a reduction in hospital visits. Through regular check-ins, the charity found that 97% of young women felt better (or at least the same) when they left an activity compared to when they arrived, demonstrating the immediate positive impact of the support provided.

The organisation delivers at least two wellbeing activities per week, with additional drop-in sessions available on other days. This consistent, accessible support has become a lifeline for young women who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn for mental health support. Together, Georgia’s Voice and their service users are reducing self-harm, preventing suicides, and saving lives.

The project also revealed an unexpected challenge: many more young women across Cornwall want to access the services, but transport is a significant barrier. In response, Georgia’s Voice is now exploring funding options for an outreach vehicle to provide free, reliable, and safe transport to and from the Hub and activities, ensuring no young woman is prevented from accessing potentially life-saving support.

Since coming to the Hub, I’ve made amazing friends. I’m also going out more which is having a positive impact on my mental health, as before I rarely left my house! I love how I can just show up and not have to engage, and everyone just understands that. It’s rare to find a place that’s so accepting.
