Supporting Cornwall’s farming communities through the Farming Health Hub
People in Mind Wellbeing Fund
Thanks to funding from the People in Mind Wellbeing FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions., Imagine If have been able to launch their Farming Health Hub, a welcoming space where farming families and rural communities can access advice and support at a place and time that suits their lifestyle.
Farming is at the heart of Cornwall’s identity – but life on the land can take it’s toll. Long hours, unpredictable markets, and rural isolationLack of access to people, services and transportation due to rural location. can negatively impact physical and mental health. Imagine If recognised these challenges and launched their Farming Health Hub in the most rural parts of Cornwall to reach those people who may need support.
The Hub will run during the evenings to fit around the busy farming day, offering confidential guidance on everything from physical health checks to mental wellbeing support. It will also host dedicated sessions for specific groups, such as women experiencing menopause, and provide help for those living with long-term health conditions. Beyond the practical support, there will be social activities and regular events designed to build local networks, foster peer support, and tackle loneliness.
Drawing on research with Duchy College and Exeter University, Imagine If understands the unique barriers rural communities face – from long distances to the local health services, and the need for trusted relationships with people who understand farming life. That’s why the Farming Health Hub will be present at local agricultural shows, partner with like-minded charities, and train “accidental counsellors” – vets, accountants, and others who regularly visit farms – to recognise when someone might need help.
For Cornwall’s farmers, this isn’t just a service – it’s a lifeline. Imagine If is making sure rural health support is available, inclusive, and rooted in understanding the farming way of life.
