Lanhydrock Cricket Club is now accessible to all thanks to the North Cornwall Fund
The North Cornwall Fund
A £2,000 grant from the North Cornwall FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. has enabled Lanhydrock Cricket Club to update its grounds and become fully accessible for disabled spectators and players.
Since the 1970s, users of Lanhydrock Cricket Club (LCC) have struggled with access to the club’s facilities due to unsuitable grounds. The unstable grounds made it very difficult for wheelchair users, the elderly, and other less abled people to gain access to these. This has resulted in many people not being able to go out and enjoy the sport they love.
A recent grant from the North Cornwall Fund has meant the LCC can upgrade its pathways and provide safe and convenient access for all. This path has seen more spectators coming to watch the club and an uplift in participation in the club’s activities.
Lanhydrock Cricket Club told us:
“Users have shared how these changes have made attending events easier and more inclusive, creating a stronger sense of community. Families and carers have also highlighted the positive impact on accessibility and involvement. This projectA piece of work that delivers an output. has made the club more welcoming, allowing more people to enjoy and contribute to its activities and vibrant atmosphere.”

Case study: Brian, now 84, is a cherished and long-standing member of our club. A former senior cricketer for Cornwall, he enjoyed a successful career and now serves as our club president. Brian remains a dedicated supporter, attending all matches at Lanhydrock, whether it’s senior, youth, or neutral ground games. Despite reduced mobility and using a colostomy bag, Brian’s passion for cricket is unwavering. Ensuring safe and accessible pathways, particularly to the toilets, is essential for his comfort and enjoyment on match days. Clear, well-maintained walkways will allow him to continue being an active part of our cricketing community.
