Liskeard Looe Rugby Club receives support from Lyskerrys Fund

Date awarded: Feb 2026
Grant programme:

Lyskerrys Fund

Liskeard Looe Rugby Club saw a significant increase in girls’ participation during the 2024–2025 season — a testament to the huge effort and commitment of coaches, volunteers and supporters.

For the first time, the Under 16 girls were able to field a full standalone team rather than clustering with others. They went on to secure a place in the National Cup — no small achievement for a developing side.

The team was hugely fortunate to receive support from the Lyskerrys Fund. This enabled them not only to purchase new match kit but, importantly for team identity and development, to design their own. At the end of the season, with so much to celebrate, the Lyskerrys Fund also supported a special event marking a hugely successful year — one that saw the girls’ section grow, gain county-wide recognition, and support the development of many local young women.

The girls enjoyed a beautiful ‘prom’-style celebration — the first time many had seen this strong, powerful team out of their muddy kits! The pride and momentum generated through the Lyskerrys Fund’s support has already had lasting impact. Several players have progressed to rugby academies and college teams, the club continues to have strong county representation, and one player earned the opportunity to attend an England Roses camp.

The support from the Lyskerrys Fund has truly built pride and raised expectations for girls and young women across Liskeard and the surrounding areas — a huge thank you to all involved.

The Liskeard Looe girls’ section continues to grow and welcomes new players aged 11–18. Everyone is welcome, regardless of prior experience, with training sessions held every Wednesday evening.

The Lyskerrys Fund is welcoming applications until 23 March – Apply Now.
