Mousehole Rockpool now accessible for all

The Duke of Cornwall’s Marine and Environmental Fund
A £3,000 grant from the Duke of Cornwall’s Marine and Environmental FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. has helped the Friends of Mousehole Rockpool committee improve accessibility and brand engagement.
Activities included the creation of new pathways, branding efforts, and promotional campaigns. The grant facilitated wider communication, with drone footage attracting media coverage via ITV, radio interviews, and newspaper articles. This exposure led to visits from families, conservationists, and wild swimmers nationwide and internationally. The initiative inspired public figures, who encouraged those with reduced mobility to visit.
Challenges included the unexpected discovery of a leaking Eastern Wall and the natural decline of crowdfunding efforts. Despite this, the funding enabled branding, collection buckets with QR codes, and essential supplies. A highlight was 90-year-old with vision impairment and a lifelong resident, who joyfully walked the new paths to the pool for the first time in 40 years.
