Urgent: Cornwall's Housing Action Appeal

North Petherwin Football Club

In a rural village with few places to meet, a local football club is building more than just a clubhouse, they’re creating a space where the whole community can come together.

The new facility will offer much-needed shelter for players, supporters, and visiting teams, as well as a place for local residents to socialise, volunteer, and take part in new activities. With limited public transport and no other informal meeting spaces in the area, the clubhouse is already playing a role in reducing isolation and strengthening local ties in North Petherwin.

Support from Cornwall Community Foundation has helped the project take important steps forward. Volunteers have come on board, new community events are being planned, and people are gaining skills and confidence through their involvement.

One new volunteer shared:

“Being welcomed by the committee and made to feel appreciated with my contribution to the grounds maintenance, has give me a new sense of achievement plus learning new skills. Being asked to […] take part as member of the grounds maintenance team has lifted my self esteem and spirits on many occasions – even if I do get soaking wet!”

With plans for wellness lunches, fundraising events, and improved facilities for families, the clubhouse is set to become a valued hub. It’s also creating new volunteering opportunities and building a stronger, more connected village—one that’s proud of its local club and what it represents.
