Poltair School set sail thanks to Amaranth Fund
Amaranth Fund
A £3,000 grant from the Amaranth FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. enabled students at Poltair School to experience sailing, with all but one trying it for the first time.
The sessions helped students build confidence in the water, with many now eager to continue sailing and explore other water-based activities. This has had a positive impact on the school community.
An initial challenge was the students’ lack of water confidence, but instructors used buoyancy exercises to ease them in, which proved highly effective.
One standout participant, Skye, overcame her fear of the water and excelled, despite not typically enjoying PE. She finished the course confidently helming a dinghy and supporting others, leaving each session beaming with pride.
A teacher expressed gratitude for the funding:
“The funding provided positive experiences for the pupils… it was a shame I couldn’t take more students!”
