Supporting families in need with a grant from the Emily Bolitho Fund

Date awarded: Jan 2025
Grant amount:  £2,000

A grant from the Emily Bolitho Fund has provided a lifeline for individuals and families in West Cornwall who are facing financial hardship. This is thanks to the remarkable work from Whole Again Communities CIC (WAC).

WAC, whose mission is to foster healthier communities and improve well-being, were able to use this funding to support local families who were struggling to afford basic necessities needed to survive.

As prices of food soars and temperatures plummet, many people across Cornwall are having to decide between heating or eating, which is simply devasting. If you are living each month barely scraping by, a sudden needed expense can be detrimental, but this is where WAC step in and can provide the finance needed with small grants.

Along with this lifeline, WAC also run a community hub providing a warm, safe space with free food and a place to charge electronics, this in turn helps encourage socialisation and reduce loneliness in the area.

Individual Case Study: Single Mother of Two

A single mother of two shared how the grant made a significant difference:

“Thank you so much for helping me get a new washing machine. I only work part-time and don’t qualify for much support. It often feels like you’re penalized for working. This grant has meant I didn’t have to cut back on food or heating to afford it. I couldn’t get credit due to an old debt, so this help has been a huge relief for me and my children.”

This funding has provided practical support and much-needed peace of mind, enabling her to focus on her family without the stress of unmanageable expenses.
