Viscountess Boyd Fund

The Viscountess Boyd Charitable Fund recently supported the ‘Trees for the Future’ initiative by Pigshill & Clarrick Woods CiC, which supports climate resilience and reforestation.

The ‘Together in the Woods’ project focused on woodland management and volunteer engagement. They received a grant of just over £7,000 which has helped make Pigshill & Clarrick Woods a greener and healthier local area.

The collaborative effort in building and maintaining the nursery has strengthened community ties and opened up new educational opportunities.

The CiC was also surprised by the support received from different groups. A local outdoor activities group for people with learning difficulties offered compost for our trees, a boat builder handcrafted a wooden sign after volunteering, and another volunteer took on the responsibility of watering and maintaining the young trees.

A standout success story is one of our youngest volunteers, a 17-year-old, who helped construct a deer fence. Inspired by the experience and the mentorship of older volunteers, he has now applied for an apprenticeship with Forestry England, demonstrating the project’s long-term impact.
