Landulph Memorial Hall is the main meeting place for clubs and organisations of Landulph Parish, situated along the River Tamar. It was built in 1970 for recreational activities and entertainments for the parish of Landulph. It comprises of a large hall with a stage, annexe meeting room and two kitchens. These spaces are regularly booked out by clubs, organisations and individuals both from the parish and outside, with 10 groups meeting on regular basis.

During a recent 52 hour power outage due to Storm Darragh that effected 250 households, it became quickly apparent how the memorial hall is a vital part of the Landulph community. Volunteers came together to obtain a generator for the hall to provide hot meals and drinks to the community. Realising that if the hall had a battery with stored power, the hall could continue to operate which was not possible just with the generator. By purchasing a battery with the Howton Solar Farm 2025 grant to store energy from the community hall’s solar panels, this project has benefitted 450 people and reduced the grid power consumption practically down to zero for the village hall, with a recent energy bill reading of less than £5.00.

The electricity stored in the battery can be used to power the hall at night, be self-sufficient during the summer, and provide back-up power and heating during an outage which is vital to the residents of the rural setting of Landulph, particularly enabling the preschool group to meet regularly. This project means Landulph village hall have reduced their carbon footprint and means electricity bills are significantly reduced making it more affordable and accessible to those who want to hire the space whilst raising awareness of the benefits of using renewable energy.
