Young artists are given the opportunity to flourish

An award of £2,000 Penwith Galleries from the Penwith & Isles of Scilly FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. empowered fifteen young people, who had never accessed extra-curricular arts activities before, to take part in weekly summer workshops led by a professional artist.

The sessions, held in a prestigious St Ives gallery, introduced them to a range of techniques and culminated in a week-long exhibition in the Hepworth Room.

The programme had a significant impact on the young people, who were engaged and enthusiastic throughout. With no parental supervision required, the workshops provided valuable support for working parents during the holidays.

One eight-year-old, who has grown up in care and struggled to access activities, attended every session with great enthusiasm. She proudly invited her entire class to see the final exhibition and expressed her desire to return next year and pursue art further. Thanks to the funding, the projectA piece of work that delivers an output. was more ambitious, with high-quality materials enhancing the experience.
