Marine Environment Fund
The Marine Environment FundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. is focused on stimulating widespread community education and engagement in marine environmental action and research across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The Marine Environment Fund will support existing projectsA piece of work that delivers an output. and new ideas, encouraging innovative initiatives that engage with the community.
Projects are expected to address one of the following themes:
- Community Action: Projects centred on instigating, continuing or expanding community involvement in mitigating the impact of pollution or climate change on our coast.
- Improving infrastructure: Projects centred on providing the means through which locals and visitors can better care for the marine environment.
- Innovation: Projects which create new and innovative ways to solve the problems of littering, pollution and climate change in Cornwall.

Grant requirements
To apply for a grant your organisation must meet the general Eligibility criteria. In addition to this, you must also meet the specific criteria of the grant listed below:
Who can apply
Charities, CICs and community and voluntary groups working in Cornwall or The Isles of Scilly
What it will support:
Existing or new projects addressing one of the key themes:
- Community Action: Projects centred on instigating, continuing or expanding community involvement in mitigating the impact of pollution or climate change on our coast.
- Improving infrastructure: Projects centred on providing the means through which locals and visitors can better care for the marine environment.
- Innovation: Projects which create new and innovative ways to solve the problems of littering, pollution and climate change in Cornwall.
- Projects or activities outside Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
- Commercial profit making organisations
- Organisations with significant free reserves
- Statutory/public sector organisations such as health authorities, schools, hospitals, parish and town councils
- Contributions to an endowment, payment of deficit funding or repayment of loans
- Grant making organisations or bodies who fundraise or distribute grants on behalf of other organisaons
- Activities or projects which have already happened
- Regional offices of national bodies that do not benefit local people
- Organisations whose beneficiaries are not people
- Organisations or projects intended to influence people’s religious choices or to promote a particular belief system
- The promotion of political causes.
The Marine Environment Fund is generously funded by The Duke of Cornwall’s Benevolent Fund is a charity that supports local communities in the South West of England. The fund was established in 1975 by His Royal Highness, who donates all monies from bona vacantia to it. Bona vacantia is when a person dies in Cornwall without a will or surviving relatives, or when a company registered in Cornwall dissolves and has remaining assets.
