Young and Talented – Creative Writing Awards


The Young & Talented Creative Writing Awards supports budding young writers in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with mentoring and up to £1,000 funding, fostering their potential, skills, and career development in the literary field.
The Young and Talented Creative Writing Awards empowers young writers across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Offering up to £1,000 and mentorship from professional writers, it nurtures potential, develops skills, and opens opportunities, ensuring aspiring authors, poets, journalists and screenwriters can pursue their careers and achieve their dreams in this challenging field.

Grant requirements
To apply for a grant you will need to meet the criteria below.
Who can apply:
- Young people and children aged from 16 to 23 years old
- A talented young writer
- Residents of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
- Priority given to those with backgrounds of economic hardship
What it will support:
- Equipment
- Activity costs (e.g. workshop fees, travel, accommodation, IT equipment)
- Training costs
- Any other costs associated with the young person’s talent.
- Those outside the age range
- Those living outside Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
- Organisations
- Costs which have already been incurred
Launched in 2005 as The Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth by Lady Mary Holborow and Michael Galsworthy, the fund supports exceptional young talent in Cornwall.
Now called Young & Talented Cornwall, it is led by Colonel Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE, the current Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall.
