The Young & Talented Cornwall Spirit of Trevithick Award supports young STEM enthusiasts in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with mentoring and grant funding, fostering their potential, skills, and career development in STEM fields.

With a grant of up to £2,000, and mentorship from industry professionals, it nurtures potential, develops skills, and opens opportunities, ensuring aspiring problem-solvers have the resources and guidance to pursue their careers and achieve their dreams in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Grant requirements

To apply for a grant you will need to meet the criteria below.

Who can apply:

  • Young people and children aged from 14 to 23 years old
  • A talented young innovator within STEM
  • Residents of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly
  • Priority given to those with backgrounds of economic hardship

Supporting documents:

  • Two recent references (within the last three months) that are dated, signed and on headed paper
  • A personal statement – up to 500 words, showing your passion and determination
  • Those outside the age range
  • Those living outside Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
  • Organisations
  • Costs which have already been incurred

Young & Talented Cornwall, it is led by Colonel Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE, the current Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall.

The Spirit of Trevithick Fund, part of Young and Talented, was launched in 2023 to support young people with an interest in STEM.
