An afternoon of thanks for our fundholders
On Tuesday afternoon, we headed to the gorgeous Headland Hotel in Newquay to bring together our fundholders for a very special afternoon tea.
This was the first event of its kind, and we were overjoyed with the response. It was wonderful to have a room full of so many of our supporters, each with their own story, passions and reasons for giving.
There was such a wonderful mix of people in the room, from former teachers and police officers to family business owners, accountants, doctors and entrepreneurs. Each brought their own experiences, connections to Cornwall and passions for making a difference.
And that’s exactly what we’re here for.
At Cornwall Community Foundation, we help people and businesses support the causes and communities that matter most to them. Whether that’s giving back to the town they call home, supporting young people experiencing mental health challenges, tackling rural isolationLack of access to people, services and transportation due to rural location. or helping to address disadvantage in their local community, we work alongside our fundholders to make sure their giving has a meaningful impact.
During the afternoon, we heard from fundholders Sam Galsworthy, Jane Hartley DL, Ross and Annie from the Sedel-Collings Foundation, and Mark Mitchell from Cornwall Group. Each shared their own story and the different reasons they’ve chosen to give through CCF.
Our panelA group of people who review grant applications and decide which will receive funding. also explored the importance of place and what giving to Cornwall means to them. Mark Mitchell shared how Cornwall Group first started its journey with CCF back in 2009, with an initial donation of £3,850. Fast forward to today, and that first gift has grown into an endowmentMoney that is invested for the long-term. fundA sum of money made available for grant making, often with specific criteria/conditions. worth over half a million pounds, distributing more than £150,000 in grants to support communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
It’s a wonderful example of how giving, whatever the starting point, can grow into something that makes a lasting difference.
We’re incredibly grateful to each and every one of our fundholders and supporters. Together, you’re helping nurture, strengthen and shape the future of Cornwall.
A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors, RBC Brewin Dolphin, and to everyone who joined us for such a special afternoon overlooking the Cornish sea.
