Cornish Lithium awards more grants to community projects across Cornwall

Cornish Lithium has awarded £17,390 to 13 local organisations through their Community Benefit Fund.

In the winter and summer of each year, Cornish Lithium invites applications to their Community Benefit Fund. They look for projects that will make a positive change in Cornwall’s communities. These are projects that: enhance skills and education, upgrade social welfare facilities, support industrial heritage and mining history, improve environmental impacts, or promote health and wellbeing.

In the winter of 2024, the fund awarded grants to a number of groups, including:

Lowender Youth Folk Project, based in Redruth. This group enables young people to learn about Cornwall’s mining, fishing and farming heritage through its traditional folk music. It teaches vocal techniques, rhythm and timing, as well as teamworking and communication skills to help build confidence. They will use this funding to broaden inclusion, celebrate diversity and engender a sense of pride in place.

Moorvision, a charity for families with children and young people who are vision impaired. This grant will enable accessible sporting activities to be provided. Activities like rock climbing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, all in a safe and positive environment. Through these activities, Moorvision aims to reduce social isolation, boosting confidence and improving wellbeing.

Travellerspace, aims to break down barriers experienced by Romani Gypsies and Travellers in accessing health education and welfare services. They run outreach and The Teyluva Centre in St Day. The award given by Cornish Lithium will be invested in new toys and play equipment. Children and babies from the nearby Travellers’ site will benefit from the safe and creative play space on offer.
