Cornwall Community Foundation joins Whyfield’s The F Word podcast
Earlier this month, we were delighted to join Whyfield’s The F Word podcast to talk about the power of philanthropy and how even the smallest act of generosity can make a lasting difference.
F(Ph)ilanthropy: Connecting givers with communities for 25 years, and why you don’t need a big cheque to make a big difference
In this episode, CCF’s Amy and Tamara sat down with Whyfield’s Laura to discuss how Cornwall Community Foundation connects people who want to give with the communities that need it most.
Over the past 25 years, we’ve awarded more than £23 million to over 9,000 charities and community projectsA piece of work that delivers an output. across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. But as you’ll hear in this episode, philanthropy is about far more than the headline figures. It’s about bringing people together, pooling generosity to create greater impact, and making connections that can transform communities.
From donating archery equipment to a local Girl Guides group, to introducing a business that helped unlock a planning application, or seeing a £3,000 acorn fundFunds that grow over time with donor making regular contributions grow into more than half a million pounds, every story demonstrates the collective power of giving.
In this episode, we discuss:
– Why Cornwall Community Foundation sees itself as a bridge between those who want to give and those who need support.
– How our Business Club brings businesses together to create greater impact through collective giving.
– The findings from our Vital Signs report, highlighting some of Cornwall’s biggest challenges, including child poverty, poor mental health and the housing crisis.
– Why philanthropy isn’t just about financial donations – giving your time, skills and connections can be just as valuable.
– The importance of unrestricted, multi-year funding for small, volunteer-led organisations.
– The hidden burnout facing many charities and why supporting those who support others is so important.
– How families are using philanthropy to pass on values, as well as wealth, to future generations.
We also answered a question from a previous podcast guest about who inspires us most. Our responses, rooted in the remarkable people and organisations we have the privilege of working alongside every day, are a reminder of the incredible community spirit that exists across Cornwall.
“It started from a fairly small donation. That’s the collective power.”
We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed taking part.
