Shannon visits RSPCA Cornwall to explore their wellbeing project

RSPCA Cornwall is well known for its work rescuing and rehoming animals, but its impact extends far beyond animal welfare. Through its Wellbeing Project, the organisation provides young people the opportunity to engage in hands-on animal care, helping them develop confidence, responsibility, and emotional resilience.

Recently, our Community Outreach Officer, Shannon, was invited to visit the centre to learn more about the initiative.

Currently, the Wellbeing Project runs weekly sessions where young people work directly with the animals in RSPCA Cornwall’s care. They assist with feeding, cleaning, and behaviour plans. This helps them develop key life skills, while the structured, therapeutic environment supports their physical and mental wellbeing.

During the visit, Leanne and Bec showcased the existing workshop space where these sessions take place, as well as an exciting new development: a purpose-built facility designed to become the hub of the project. This new space includes an enclosed outdoor area, kitchen, accessible bathroom, and hall. This expansion will enable RSPCA Cornwall to reach even more young people in need.

RSPCA Cornwall is powered by a passionate and motivated team dedicated to making a real difference – not just for animals but for people too. With additional funding, their Wellbeing Project has the potential to transform even more lives, reinforcing the deep connection between human and animal welfare.

After visiting, Shannon said,

“The warm and friendly welcome by Leanne and Bec allowed for an insightful introduction to not only how the incredible work of RSPCA Cornwall impacts animals in need but young people in the area too. An exciting project that will continue to thrive with the right funding.”
