Christmas Fair On Ice 2020 raises £24,000 for the Foundation
The Christmas Fair may have been put ‘on ice’ for 2020, but that didn’t hold back the organising committee who still raised an amazing £24,000 to support communities in Cornwall through the pandemic.
Over the last 28 years, The Cornwall Christmas Fair has raised more than £750,000 in charitable donations. The funding raised in 2020 will help the Foundation to enable frontline Cornish community groups and charities to meet increasing demand, rebuild and extend their services.
Co-chair Kate Holborow comments, “The needs of Cornish communities have been brought starkly to the fore by the effects of the pandemic. It was important that, although we had to sadly cancel the Cornwall Christmas Fair, we found other ways to raise funds for the Foundation. Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of our generous sponsors, donors and committee, we have raised £24,000.”
Funds were raised through an online auction with 17 incredible lots including a three-course dinner by chef Tim Spedding delivered to the winner’s door, an interior design consultation with interior designer Nicola O’Mara and a two-night stay in a Shepherd’s Hut complete with hot tub. Supporters also donated the value of their usual entrance tickets, and much more, and breakfast for two at the fabulous Pig at Harlyn Bay.
The Christmas Fair on Ice 2020 was also generously sponsored by Ginsters and Lillicrap Chilcott.
Cornwall Community Foundation has been at the forefront of supporting vulnerable Cornish communities since Covid hit. Since March the Cornwall Emergency Fund has awarded more than 250 grants totalling over £1 million to community organisations, including local food banks, family support groups, mental health charities and projects supporting older people.
Tamas Haydu, Chief Executive of the Foundation, commented, “We are very grateful to the Christmas Fair Committee, the sponsors, donors and bidders for supporting the CCF so generously. The incredible funds raised will go a long way in helping the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This Christmas and the winter months will be especially challenging for many people and we are here to support them.”
We are looking forward to the Cornwall Christmas Fair returning to the Eden Project next year which have been announced as:

We cannot wait to see you there.
