Cornwall Community Foundation: The heart behind the giving
If you travel through almost any town or village in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly, you’ll find the fingerprints of Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) somewhere nearby.
From a youth club that stayed open, a community foodbank that kept shelves stocked through Covid-19, to a rescue boat launched thanks to local funding. Since it began life as the Cornwall Independent Trust in 1999, and formally became a community foundation in 2003, CCF has channelled more than £25 million into grassroots, volunteer-led organisations tackling poverty, isolation, and disadvantage across the Duchy.
CCF’s model is simple but powerful: it connects people who want to give, whether that’s individuals, families, businesses, and even those leaving a gift in their will, with the small, frontline groups doing work that often falls outside UK government’s reach. These aren’t large national charities with fundraising departments, they’re community foodbanks, youth projectsA piece of work that delivers an output., sea-swimming groups, and mental health support circles run by people who live in the communities they serve.
As CCF handles the due diligenceChecking organisations and people are who they say they are and management of the group and project meet out guidelines., donors can give with confidence that their money reaches the places it’s needed most, without having to research every recipient themselves. In 2024 alone, that meant we distributed over £3.2 million across more than 675 projects.
If you look closely at CCF’s branding you’ll spot the yellow heart woven through it, featured in our logo, on the website and in campaign materials. It’s a simple image but it carries real weight as the yellow heart represents friendship and community. If we think of sunshine breaking over the Cornish coast, or the golden gorse that lines the county’s coastal paths in spring. Together, the yellow heart becomes a symbol of hopeful, generous community spirit, steady everyday warmth of communities looking out for one another.
