Foundation Practice Rating assesses Cornwall Community Foundation

Cornwall Community Foundation’s website and practices were assessed by the Foundation Practice Rating. They score 100 UK-based charitable grant-making foundations annually. Each charity is assessed in three categories: diversity, accountability and transparency.

It is unlike anything else in the foundation sector, in that foundations do not opt in and cannot opt out: it therefore gives a more representative view of the performance of the sector than most analyses of funders. It uses only publicly available information, and the included foundations have no influence over the findings.

Amongst the 100 grant funding charities they selected 6 community foundations in the most recent assessment. Each included foundation is assigned a rating (or grade) of A, B, C or D (A is top) on each of the three ‘domains’ of diversity, accountability and transparency, and is also given an overall rating.

We were assessed in both 2023/24 and 2024/25 and managed to improve our overall rating from C to B. We scored A – the highest – on both Accountability and Transparency. We scored lower on Diversity as we didn’t communicate on our website well enough how we support diversity. We started to publish success rates for each fund and will publish applicant feedback and information on the diversity of our board and staff to improve how we communicate our diversity.

Tamas Haydu CEO said – “It was very helpful to be independently assessed by experts. It helps us to improve the way we provide information on our website, and to be more transparent and accessible. We are always interested in adopting best practices and striving to provide the best service for our grant applicants and funders.”
