The Lions Club of St Austell continue support of Young & Talented Cornwall

The Lions Club of St Austell has continued its supports Young & Talented Cornwall fund with a generous donation of £5,000, which will help support young people from the St Austell area in the next round of funding.

Our most recent funding round, held at St Austell Brewery, saw 46 young people receive awards totalling more than £58,000. Their talents span a wide range of disciplines, including dance, football, darts, photography, engineering, horse riding, surfing, and much more.

Young & Talented Cornwall exists because we understand that living in Cornwall can present unique challenges for talented young people. These can include the cost of travelling to national competitions and training venues, lower average household incomes, and limited access to specialist facilities. Our aim is to help give Cornwall’s talented young people the opportunities they deserve to become the very best they can be.

Previously, The Lions Club supported three talented young people through the 2023 funding round:

Aston Purnell, St Austell – A talented ballet dancer, Aston completed his training at the English National Ballet School and has since continued his development with Boston Ballet School in the United States. The grant helped with associated training and travel expenses.

Ashleigh Masters, St Austell – Ashleigh is an acrobatic gymnast who competes as part of a trio. The team recently represented Great Britain at the Acro Championships in Germany, where they achieved an impressive second-place finish. The grant helped cover equipment and competition costs.

Tilly Dodd, St Austell – Tilly has represented the Cornwall Ladies Cricket Team and dreams of becoming a professional cricketer and one day playing for England. The grant helped towards the cost of equipment and travel.

We look forward to seeing who this latest funding will support and are incredibly grateful to The Lions Club of St Austell for its generosity and belief in the young people of Cornwall. We simply could not do what we do without support like this.

Over the years, we have been proud to support Olympians, national champions, and world champions. Alongside financial assistance, we provide something equally important: hope, encouragement, and belief.
